Plain English Summary: JurisFile collects only what it needs to provide the service. We do not sell your data. We do not use client case information to train AI models. We store data securely and delete it 30 days after cancellation. Texas attorneys' client data is treated with the same confidentiality obligations you owe your clients.

Who We Are

JurisFile operates the jurisfile.com platform — an AI-powered legal document drafting service for Texas family law attorneys. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our Service.

For purposes of the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), JurisFile acts as a data controller with respect to account and billing information, and as a data processor with respect to case information you input for document generation.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Generating motion drafts, producing PDF documents, and operating the platform
  • Creating and maintaining your account, processing payments, and sending service notifications
  • Responding to your questions and resolving technical issues
  • Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Meeting our legal obligations under Texas law and applicable professional conduct rules
  • Analyzing anonymized usage patterns to improve platform features
  • Sending product updates and renewal reminders — you may opt out of marketing emails at any time

Data We Do Not Collect or Sell

JurisFile does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data or client case information to any third party. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not use case input data to train AI models.

We do not collect:

  • Social Security numbers or government ID numbers
  • Biometric data of any kind
  • Precise geolocation data
  • Health or medical information
  • Information about children under age 13

How We Share Information

Service Providers

We share data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Service:

  • Payment Processor — handles all payment processing. We do not store full card numbers.
  • AI Document Generation Service — a third-party AI language model API used solely to generate motion drafts. Our AI service provider is contractually prohibited from using customer data for model training. Governed by a data processing agreement with JurisFile.
  • Hosting Provider — hosts and delivers the platform infrastructure.
  • Email Service — transactional email delivery only.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or your safety.

Business Transfers

If JurisFile is acquired or merges, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change via email or prominent notice on our website.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • TLS/SSL encryption for all data in transit
  • Encryption at rest for stored data
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only
  • Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments
  • Secure API key management for all third-party integrations

Despite these measures, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure. If you become aware of any security breach, contact us immediately at security@jurisfile.com.

Data Retention
  • Account information — retained for the duration of your subscription plus 3 years for legal and tax compliance
  • Case input data and generated documents — retained during your subscription. You have 30 days after cancellation to download your documents, after which case data is permanently deleted
  • Payment records — retained for 7 years as required by Texas and federal tax law
  • Usage logs — retained for 12 months, then aggregated and anonymized

You may request early deletion of your data at any time by contacting privacy@jurisfile.com, subject to our legal retention obligations.

Your Rights — Texas TDPSA

Under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), effective July 1, 2024, Texas residents have the following rights:

Request correction of inaccurate personal data
Right to Deletion
Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
Right to Portability
Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format
Right to Opt Out
Opt out of the sale of personal data — we do not sell data
Right to Appeal
Appeal our decision if we decline to act on your rights request

To exercise any of these rights, submit a request to privacy@jurisfile.com. We will respond within 45 days as required by TDPSA.

Small Business Note: JurisFile qualifies as a small business under SBA size standards. We nonetheless comply with the spirit and purpose of the TDPSA in all material respects.

California Residents — CCPA

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies to businesses with annual gross revenue over $25 million, personal data of 100,000+ California consumers, or deriving 50%+ of revenue from selling California consumer data.

JurisFile does not currently meet these thresholds. CCPA does not apply to JurisFile at this time. If our operations grow to meet these thresholds, we will update this policy and implement required CCPA compliance measures.

Regardless of statutory requirements, JurisFile does not sell personal data to any third party.

Children's Privacy

JurisFile is intended exclusively for licensed attorneys and legal professionals aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us at privacy@jurisfile.com.

Note: Case input data may include names of minor children who are subjects of family law proceedings. Such information is processed solely to generate requested legal documents and is subject to the same confidentiality protections described in this Policy.

Cookies and Tracking
  • Essential cookies — required for the Service to function. Session management and authentication. Cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies — anonymized usage data to understand how the Service is used. You may opt out via your browser settings.
  • Payment cookies — used by our payment processor for fraud prevention during payment processing.

We do not use cookies for targeted advertising or cross-site tracking.

Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party service providers. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies and by data processing agreements with JurisFile. Details are available upon request at privacy@jurisfile.com.

JurisFile is not responsible for the independent privacy practices of third-party services beyond the contractual protections we require of them.

Attorney-Client Confidentiality

We understand that attorneys using JurisFile may input information protected by attorney-client privilege and the duty of confidentiality under Texas Rule 1.05. We treat all case input data as confidential and implement technical and contractual safeguards to protect it.

By using JurisFile, attorneys acknowledge they have made an independent determination that use of this cloud-based service is consistent with their professional confidentiality obligations. We recommend attorneys review Texas State Bar Ethics Opinion No. 648 regarding cloud computing and client confidentiality.

JurisFile operates as a data processor with respect to client information — processing it solely on your instructions to generate requested documents. We do not access, analyze, or use client information for any purpose beyond providing the Service.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Service at least 14 days before changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
